As Far As I Know, it doesn't stand for anything ;)

for synth diy, an analog scope is IMHO the way to go,for the 
same reasons that an analog synth is the way to go.
Knobs, immediacy, ease of use. 
I'm using an old Tektronix that i bought from a listmember (Hi Barry!!)
and it's just fine.

a good way to decode acronyms, is just to search www.google.com
adding a couple of known acronyms from the same field. This will
turn up an acronym list, usually. YMMV.
