how to troubleshoot?

Hi everybody.  I just got a roland CR-8000, and I am thrilled with it.  It 
will be my first real mod project.   but first, I want to get it up to spec.  
 the conga voice doesn't operate.  I will be getting the sevice manual in the 
mail early next week, but I have never done this kind of thing before, so I 
wonder if someone can give me the basics on troubleshooting the circuit with 
a digital multimeter.   I don't have a continuity buzzer on mine, but I could 
get one if absolutely necesary.
