SoftMac is not a PowerPC emulator so anything that requires a PPC, OS 8.1+,
etc. will NOT work. As for outright speed I have no idea. There is a
downloadable demo version, so try before you buy. If it does work, let us
all know!
It looks like it would be great for its stated purpose: running Mac
software on a PC so you can swap files and whatnot.
BTW, this fellow (Derek) has had some rather wild talk posted in the past
(even wilder than what's there now). His comments were right to a large
extent but always seemed (IMHO) to overshoot the mark a bit and venture
into the realm of BS, even hysteria. I suggest you check this out carefully
before spending the money.
Some of his past rhetoric was along the lines of "buy a faster PC for less
than a Mac and get the same performance" but since they discontinued (or at
least indefinitely halted) development of their PPC emulator this argument
doesn't hold much water, especially with high performance A/V software, and
the price of used/refurbished Mac's dropping like a rock.
