I think, you do not have a imagination about the cost of this and the
earnings a firm like doepfer, EES or others give. Also maybe you don't
have an idea of the costs of personel in Germany, they are up to three
times higher than in the US.

They can be reluctant, because everyone who bought a modularsystem can
buy a complete Servicemanual (about 350 Pages) for the price of 25 Euro.
In the times when Doepfer offered kits they gave always the complete
instruction and service manual with the device, even when you bought the
readymade gear.
I know people of those little manufacturers like Dieter Döpfer, Hauke
Harms, Kurt Hoef or Thomas Wieschiolek personally for a long time.
Sometimes I know them and their economical and private problems very
intimate. I speak of small business firms in general; it does not matter
whether they have the name Doepfer or another name. Don't expect an
economical behaviour of them that does not pay back immidiately in
money. It is not the honour in the musicians world, but the MONEY
(capital letters!), that pays the rent. Neverthelesse they often behave
uneconomically ;-)
