see for MP3 my "mp3 zuigt" page.
Though it's in dutch, you'll notice what mp3 does to sound.
I made a graphical comparrison.
You'll see mp3 make both insweeps and outsweeps, whatever that is in English.
And it distort blocks to, eh, something else.

Most of the comments I got on the page were like this:

OK, mp3 sucks, buit without it, I would not have had to the possibility to
put my music out nor the get to know extraordenairy music from all over the
world.
