This is very likely the case.
I've posted mail in HTML format myself, after an upgrade of Outlook Express
changed my preferences (without asking of course...)
I also use a web based e-mail system that will *only* send mail in HTML
format - obviously I can't use it for posting to lists.
It doesn't tell you it's using HTML either.

It would be nice if the majordomo had the ability to auto-convert HTML
messages to plain text...
