[sdiy] front panel legend ( was SBM - Recommend Panel Pots & Knobs? Is a 'fake' Scope Risky?)

yeah, have you ever seen the "back lights" in old tektronix
racks? I mean, all knobs and pots had some light surounding
them. Wouldn't it be cool to have the panel area glowing
only the letters in black?

;->

I guess not realizeable for us diy people...

But perhaps, if the alu pannel is shiny, some light will get
in and out again. Many alu chassis (anodized) have still the
metal character, but with some red, blue green etc. colorization,
just enough to have an impression of color. I guess this is when
the anodized layer is very thin. If it gets thicker, it won't
be translucent any more.

So one could try black letters on a slighly green (or whatever)
background. Before alu treatment with fine sandpaper should
do the job to mask any scratches from drillingt etc.

I guess you drill first, then glue film to panel, then cut out
the drill holes? Otherwise the film could be ripped apart.

??

:::Hi Martin..well I guess its down to personal taste. I was looking for a
:::clean `neutral' background in my panels, on which the legend would stand
:::out. But sure... there's no reason why you shouldn't go for the transluscent
