Sounds like the Axcel re-synthesiser front end to me (32 by 32 LED switchs)

nice up to there..
take a close look, they will allow one input to several outputs, but not
several inputs to one output
(or several inputs to several outputs) they also have a low ON resistance
(<50ohms) which means you
couldn't do the CV summing, if you could find one that let multiple inputs
goto multiple outputs AND
that had an on-resistance of about 10K then you'd be talking...
