[sdiy] simple ASM-1 questions

On the ASM-1 board the vco is marked for a mat-02, but the holes are in E-B-C order.... this means I should point the nub on the mat-02 down right? I downloaded the .pdf from Analog Devices and I read the literature from Gene Stopp... just looking for a confirmation.
Next question. Somehow after ordering from the parts list I ended up with a few 33 radial ceramic caps? Any hints on why? Are these the ones that are supposed to piggyback the 560k in the VCA?
Thirdly. I ordered two 1000pf caps and have no idea where they go. I tend to order extras so is this the 0.001uf cap in the noise generator? Thats the only one uncalled for. I'm no good at cross referencing values.
And finally... On the board layout sheet in the VCO sections there are three(total from both) caps labelled 0.1 cap as opposed to 0.1 uf cap like all the others for power. Is this a typo or is there a reason for this?
Thanks for bearing with me,
Nick P
PS:Someday I'll finish this darn board! I ordered it well over a year ago!!
