....last night, for the benefit of anyone who didn't/couldn't see it, was about simmons drums, and focussed on their use during the 80s. as usual, they'd managed to round up hardly anyone whose comments were really enlightening. there was the drummer from spandau ballet, owner #3, he says, of simmons' original design, with #1 still at dave's house and #2 at mike oldfield's studio. in fact, he confessed, spandau ballet used the thing on only one track ("chant #1"). other interviewees (and they must've block-shot these interviews since the same faces are there every week) included jacques le conte from les rhythmes digitales (yeah, exactly....) and rick wakeman ("I never really had much to do with them, but dave simmons was an interesting bloke...."), with vince clarke appearing for about 5 seconds at the end. nothing from bill bruford or phil collins.
dave simmons now makes super-realistic models of female hands for the purposes of training manicurists and false-nail artists.

let's all pray these people don't try to "do" the mellotron..... oops, wrong list.

d.
