I guess he did though.

Well, I've heard my Studer photo's

run around the TapeHeadPorn list, the EL34 list, and even on the totally
obscene ECC83 list. Just like Harry, I do not trust guys who trade photo's
of small tubes.

Oops, did I just spam?

But I found the resistor war thread most informative!

Funny how those guys always go on about dynamics, while studio engineers
compress compress compress, Even the bolero is compressed to the max, it
doesn't build up in volume anymore, the more instruments pop up, the more
the compressors kick in.
The dynamic rate of most -even the audiophile- recordings is nothing. The
difference between volumes troughout a cd is to close to call.
I guess this is what they want, as 'you can hear every little detail.' :-)
And they do not need to run to the volume knob, even if they own 200watts

Is anyone in here considering compressors as a standard tool to a synth?
Nobody at sonology seemed to use em, but the first thing I did when I got
my job at the theatreschool, was fetching every unused compressor in the
building to stack them up in my studio. Even extened my patchpanel for them.

I also worked in a radio jingle studio, so I know how to overuse them, how
to irritate people and how to drown anything in 0dB. Learning good
compression through having to use devilish limiting.

Dave

BTW. the most irritating thing with compressors is that if you stick a jack
in their key-input, (as you need to in a rack) they automatically switch to
keying. By nature, there are no buttons on them to manually choose it, and
apart from analogue synths, all electronic stuff has the stupid habit of
having all connections at the backside. Unreachable, unreadable,
unpractical. Stupid housewife cable and plug fobia.

(BTW2 when all is at 0dB, I've compressed to nothingness.)

I used to have a nice round girlfriend with lots of curly hair.
I invited her always to the gear-A-B-test evenings in my room, as her
absorbtion specs were so great. No unwanted resonances anymore in my
speakers/room!
;-)
