There's very obvious illustration of these carbon/metal film
noise issues, even for us mortals:
on all guitar effects, good practice is to put resistor across
the input (and out also), befor the serial decoupling cap,
to stop that poping sound, but having some very high gain preamps
using preffered 1meg resistors causes great deal of noise, so
people tend to lower it to 100K, but now I just use MF for the
in/out, with much better results.
Also there's Linear Technology's app note with noise generator
from just two hi gain amplifiers, with the first having just a
resistor from noninv to gnd. I'll see if I can find the link
again if anyone needs it.
Cheers,
marjan
