A trigger signal is a brief pulse that basically says "Start and do your
thing" to a module. The module has to be set up to respond properly to a
Trigger signal by going thru a series of events based on receiving the
trigger signal. The trigger does not have to be present for the module
to finish the sequence. Often, the sequence of events can be started
over by "re-triggering" the module.
A Gate is a signal that is on for the duration of the event and says
"start the event and continue until I turn off, then (sometimes) finish
the event".
