[sdiy] outlet as variac? calling all EEs...

thanks to everyone for their reponses on this one.

couple questions arose on this thread.

1)if dimmers do all kinds of twisted things to waveshapes, has anyone tried
putting them into a synth module?  seems like some weird wave cuisinart
would be a cool voltage source.

2)if we've got to worry about bring up vintage stuff b/c of cap age, does
this hols true for non-tube gear?  is non-tube stuff just not old enough or
is it because the circuits deal with much less voltage that this isn't
really a problem?
