OK. I have attempted to capture some of the JP-6 service docs to make them
available on line as I promised. The format is somewhat challenging. All
pages are 11" X 17." The non-schematic pages are working out fairly well.
They are actually divided into a 8 1/2" X 11" format. Thefore, I can break
each page into two sections and get nice readable format with only 1280 X
960 resolution. I have saved those into JPG files without much JPG
compression at about 500K each. I have also stepped the compression up and
squeezed the files down to 50K to 150 , Which is still quite readable. I
enlarged some of the illustrations with small print into "detail" files.
A couple of you offered to take a crack at squeezing these into a nice GIF
format. If you want to try a couple and let me know how it works out, that
would be great. Any comments or suggestions are most certainly welcome. I
can step these up to 2048 X 1536 resolution if the extra detail will make
the conversions come out better. I can even save these totally without
compression (tiff) if that gives you a better starting point. But, I would
want to mail you those on CDR as they are 9.2 Mb each.
The schematics are another matter. The printing is VERY small in places on
the 11 X 17 format. Even in a 2048 X 1536 resolution of the entire page,
some of the numbers are still not readable. So, I also duplicated the one
schematic (page 9) with each 1/2 of the page as a 2048 x 1536 resolution
file. Even here, numbers are not always clear, but at least readable. I
think I can adjust things somewhat and get this a little better. However,
the files are large. I saved them all as high quality JPGs at about 1.4 Mb
each. I saw no motivation to save these in more compact resolution or
quality as the readability would certainly not have been acceptable. Maybe
I should try to break each page into 4 to 6 smaller file sections.
Comments?
Before I proceed, I would appreciate any and all feedback relative to the
format, indexing and such that I have chosen. Don't ask me to convert the
files to this format or that. I will leave that to those more experienced
in that area. I will be happy to create the images and host them if I can
get some assistance with the format conversion and compression.

We are making some upgrades to this server so that I can support a largish
library. So, if it happens to be off line, the images are also mirrored at
http://larry.retrosynth.com The mirror is updated twice a day, so it may be
a few hours before the images are available there. Thanks again to Cary
Roberts for the mirror and his generousity to the MOTM community for storage
resources.
Thanks for this great forum. Many here have beem very helpful to me. I am
trying to give something back.
