[sdiy] transistor id question

back again with another component question.  i've got this little
electro-harmonix "EGO booster" that i want to cop the circuit from for a
gain stage in a project.  but it's got a transistor i'm having a hard time
locating.  it says "s36999 226" on it, but i suspect that if there's a
modern equivalent, the number's changed.  does this sound familiar to
anyone?
