I dis-a-disagree...
Velocity is the basis of all synth patches taht have dynamics...
hit the keys harder and the sound is louder, brighter, whatever.
Not the the "organ" sound you get without velocity sensing.
Velocity is always "polyphonic" where aftertouch is almost always
mono (global)... like a mod wheel.
Most of the keyboards I own HAVE aftertouch, but you need to sit
on them to get very much response... Maybe others are less wimpy
than me.
Bender / Mod wheel / ribbon is your choice... my point is that the
aftertouch basically does the same global effect.
But I really like the mod wheels the best anyway (so who cares???)
