Too bad this place is already taken by the capstan and the drive wheel.
What you are after is a deck with tape-monitor setting (as opposite to
source-monitor setting).
This is a common feature among the better cassette decks.
These decks do their trick by using a "double" head,
one housing with separate record and playback heads.
You can buy a replacement "double" head for about $20 and fit it a common
deck.
