you could install extra tape head on the other side of the cassette like the 
erase head is  but on the other side - so then you have
erase-record-playback

Can the motor speed of a

yes, there is usually a trimpot inside for setting the speed. just need to 
find it and make it inot a pot. it is usually located near where the motor 
wires attach to the board..
