[sdiy] LED/LDR modules

Yesterday i tried to make one of these myself by
soldering a LDR03 to a piece ob stripboard and then
a green LED atop of it. I put then some shrink-wrap tube
(it that the correct name for "Schrumpfschlauch" ?) over it
to seal it from light.

Worked OK, LDR resistance can be changed from near infinite
to 2 KOhms (LED current varied from 0...20 mA)
But it is slloooooooowwww... 

Are there any faster LDR´s out readily available ? In the Reichelt
catalogue i saw LDR04 and LDR05, but i have no clue if they may
be faster...
Anyone with experience in this field ?
