Obviously the people mentioned the article in The Register haven't gotten
around to that yet. All of these schemes for slowing light down that I've
heard about recently seem to require some rather exotic conditions (the BBC
article Colin mentioned is about a scheme that works at almost absolute
zero). Maybe around about the time they get superconductors up to room
temperature making time delay effects and storage devices by slowing light
down will be practical...
