[sdiy] LED/LDR modules

hey there, what's the state of currently available integrated
LED/LDR modules? i got lancaster's active filter cookbook, which
reminded me that you can use them to VC filters, and you can
also use them as the sense element for compressors/etc. the only
thing is the linearity may be less than ideal, does anyone have
any expierence with these?  i've been checking around, but
doesn't seem like any large catalog distributors carry them, is
there another source? i'm just looking for a few, not thousands!
