FW: [sdiy] Synsonic drums

I got a Synsonic when it first came out. I think
it was about in 1981 in the summer. It is analog.
I added a separate box connected by ribbon cable to change the sounds. The
box has three pots and a toggle switch. The pots change snare length,
tomtom1 length, and tomtom2 length. I forgot what the switch does but I
think it changed the tune or decay of one of the tomtoms.
I really like the closed and open high hats. They have a clean simple white
noise kind of sound unlike Roland which is usually several high freq
oscillators going through a bandpass filter.

I don't have a schematic although I remember tracing the circuit back then.
I do have the three or four page instruction manual. I can copy it and send
it to you if you need. Unfortunately I do not have a scanner so I could
only send it by regular mail.

Subject: [sdiy] Synsonic drums

Hi all,

I've found this Mattel Synsonic drums, nice four pad toy drum emulator.
It's nice for it's worth, pads are pressure sensitive, some programming
and seq capabilities, tuning od toms, accent, stereo out, battery/DC
powered, and very nice analogish four/five sounds.

Now, anybody knows this thing? Is it really analog? I got my unit in
nice shape but screws are totally rusted and I still haven't managed
to open it up. Only tuning pot doesn't work.
If it's analog (and it sounds like it) it'd be easy to modify.
Also handy as sensitive triggers (unless some digital mess is inside).
Anybody with schematics?

Thanks,

marjan
