Not a 555, BAD, very BAD, very very BAD!!!

each time you trigger the 55 iut crowbars and pulls the 5v down to 0v for a
moment..
Noisey noisey 5v line....

If you REALLY want to use discrete, why not use a bistable made from a pair
of NPN transistors?

These could drive any number of FETs (in both inverse and normal)...
