I want to work with Shepard scales. I don't know about the discontinued PAiA
Shepard scale generator model but the other model from Doepfer has eight
phases, and six phases I think are the minimum for a seamless perception of
continuous pitch (et al). Analog modular realization obviously can be a
material problem; since I don't wish to buy eight of each cheapo AS or
Doepfer VCO/ VCA and other modules (and Wiard doesn't have enough parts left
;) I'm thinking about a couple fine things I read but never used yet...
The Buchla 264 deploys CV demultiplexion to create 4 voice polyphony with one
oscillator - is this sort of circuit able to do the Shepard job with a
correspondingly smaller number of module combos?
Are there similar but easier obtainable machines out there?
Can the Wiard WC be programmed to do the demultiplexing?!
Comdyna GP-6 can be programmed to act as VCO, VCA, VCF and more - how many of
one of these can it do at a time?
A reasonable digital solution (VAZ Modular does have a multiphase saw+tri LFO
but for phases is not enough and the program sounds crappy) for any of the
actual options?
Thanks for input
