check out the PPG BUS system, 20KBYTE per second...
its dual 8 bit parallel Bus system... Fantastically quick....

what do you mean?
It would have knobs and such on the front of the modules, if you designed a
module with them.
The idea is essentially a structured approach to a common backplane..
how each module is controlled and is interfaced to the user is entirely down
to the deisgner, though a common front panel/interface would make things a
lot better looking when it came to building systems/modules...
