I am not really too sure I really understand what you are asking....

Download that file. This is where I got my first real exposure to
what a synthesizer can do (I knew about them before hand, but, a
synthesizer was a piece of equipment I could never hope to afford before
I saw this article). There is enough of a discusion of how the moudles
interact, I think, to answer what I think your question is (by the way,
when I first read that article, I was going to college, I would go into
the library and read magazines, finding that issue of Radio Electronics
was the luckiest thing that ever happened to me).
