As always, it is difficult/impossible to give advice because 'beginners'
vary so much.
personally, I think the Oakley modules are much easier for a raw beginner
than the
ASM-1.
But if someone has never done any electronics before, they should start with
simple kits
and then guitar effects (plenty of leads via the effects forums at
www.firebottle.com/ampage).
I know MANY ppl have been turned off electronics forever, because they tried
to make something
too ambitious straight off.
