[sdiy] Major Score in the Dumpster at work!

Hello all,

My first post to this list so I thought I'd chime in an tell you all
about my past Dumpster experiences.

I used to work for a major American company at a big UK Plant and, every
year or so, they would clear out the store room of any old junk.
Thankfully, my manager couldn't stand the idea of working kit getting
broken up so he would do all of the paperwork to 'scrap' the machines
and then let us take what we wanted, provided it was on the scrap list.
Our chief accountant was happy for this to go ahead so not all
bean-counters are money-mad so-an-so's.

On my last haul before leaving I managed to 'save' the three Silicon
Graphics Elan workstations (the type they used to make 'Jurrasic Park'),
two SGI O2 workstations and a decent 19" monitor, all working, most in
use today.

Far better than to have them taking up space in a landfill site.

Regards
   David
