To the best of my knowledge there is no generic rule for it. I could
not find a component designator having either of "*L" or "*AL" while
being in DIL/DIP package.
Each manufactor usually have their own system, or at best only have
one system (separate lines and complex merger histories flukes that
heavily).
Often memories for instance have an "L" postfix to indicate a lowpower
version, even from the japanese firms, so go figure.
