[sdiy] Protel spam?

Funny you should mention Protel Spam...I just got "Orcad" Spam, now owned
by Cadence....
"If I act now, I can get Orcad for $9000 instead of $12000!"
What I would like to know...what every happened to low cost solutions from
both of these companies.
When I purchased Orcad Capture 12 some odd years ago, it was $500.
When I purchased Protel Autotrax 12 some odd years ago ( which, in my
opinion, still beats Protels fancy windows version to this day), it was only
$1000. I realize there has been a bit of inflation over the years, but I
cannot see how in 12 years the price of these packages has gone up by almost a
factor of 10!
