I'm guessing that you're observing them at the audio output.  If you look at 
the signals coming directly out of the SSM VCO chips, the waveshapes will 
probably look much more pure.  The filter, VCA, and any other output 
amplification can effect the waves, especially if they add some equaliztion 
to fatten things up (as Oberheim used to do on their OBX and OBXa).
