One thing I forgot to mention about the method I talked about that makes the
tape flange so "heavy" compared to digital means, is that when the finger is
removed, the tape snaps back up to speed but really overshoots the mark and
comes back. This wavy jitter makes for a pitch change *up* from the original
for the time the deck takes to settle in sync. So the flanged deck goes back
and forth in relative time (since both decks are delaying from real time,
the slowed deck bounces forward of the other while settling).
