Actually, doing a MIDI implementation on a PIC isn't that bad.  This is
assuming you're using a PIC with a built-in USART, though.  It also depends
whether you need to receive data, or just be able to send basic MIDI
messages.  If it's the latter, then coding it is pretty trivial.  Even
receiving/parsing MIDI data is not _that_ painful an exercise.

That reminds me, I need to get to work on my SID synth again...
