Hah, some days it's pretty tough!  :-)

   If everythig was running the other way, you probably wouldn't have
   a high enough voltage rating on the filter caps. Or, the voltage
   drop across the regs would be so high that you would overheat them
   at max current.

Ahh, but that's part of the joy of engineering!  (Or it's another good
reason to buy a commercially made power supply.)

   i still say, given the 'average' 28v centrtap tranny, and half a
   dozen modules, all will be well. Most likely. Nobody can say more,
   for 'unknown' transformers & unspecified load.

At the very least you want to be able to say what the limits of
performance are.  Especially if the power supply is for a musical
instrument that might be taken out gigging.
