[sdiy] BBD for delay and other things

I've been looking at BBD information on the net just recently, and also at some threads in this list (CCD321
ASR thread, f.e.) and almost everyone says that theya re a cruddy line for handling audio -- distortion,
aliasing, etc -- sounds like low-rate sampling to me. :) Anyway, it's obviously a crappy way of achieving
delay effects in analog. As far as I can tell, the only other popular method for achieving delay in analog is
by way of tape echo. am I correct in assuming this?

Speaking of tape echo, is there a tape loop cartridge similar to the echoplex cartridge that will fit over a
standard home-stereo audiocasette head? I'm on a quest for analog echoes, and if I have to resort to
tape delay, I'd rather do it via commodity components from busted tape decks instead of building an
echoplex and using those funny cartidges.

In other words, I'm a cheap bastard who MORE THAN LIKELY doesn't know what he's talking about. But
please gimme a hand and in the long run I might be able to contribute something to this list. :)

Thanks again
John Lamb
