I remember as a child, I would take the garden hose and empty all
the water out of it.  Then I would put one end to my ear and 
speak into other end.  Very odd sound indeed and noticable delay.

I wonder if a wooden box with a folded 'wave guide' inside made
of wooden walls would sound different?  better?  worse?  

I've often wondered about acoustic filters made of wood, with 
baffles movable from outside the box.
