Congrantulations, Juergen!
You're at the start of a great experience. My son is now six and over the
years has had great fun in daddy's workshop playing with "blinky lights".
All of this work has been solder-free with plug-in breadboards. He may be
one of the few children in Monmouth county who could identify the components
of a circuit board before he was potty trained.
Don't worry about finding time for DIY- one side effect of being a parent is
being able to make use of every scrap of time available. When Brian was a
year old I built my Theremax over the course of a summer during his naps.
This involved soldering outside in the carport with the baby monitor next to
me. Doing electronics and computers is good training for this - you've
already learned patience and sleep deprivation ;).
