That may verywell be.
Thermen was kept prisoner for years (12 if  I remeber correctly)
because he had anti communist sympathies, and because the wanted to
get his knowledge.
Meanwhile 'home' knew nothing about that. He was reported 'missing'.
So he actually was a missing person, not a known political prisoner.
I do not suppose he had a trial.
So yes, I do guess KGB, or another governmental body does have reasons
to keep some information away from the public.
