[sdiy] Linear vs. Exponential control of VCA's

What are people's thoughts about linear vs. exponential control of
VCA's? VCA's are usually controlled by envelope generators which already
output exponential waveforms, so if you input these into an exponential
control input, aren't you getting a "double" exponential response? Does
one sound more natural than another?
A VCA that is going to be controlled by a linear voltage should have an
exponential response. For example, my og2 synth project is going to have
a VCA controlled by the MIDI Mod Wheel voltage, and also one controlled
by MIDI Velocity (for touch sensitivity).
