I remember seeing on the australian show alchemy a group of guys that made 
something called the thwaper.  it was used to make drum sounds and was a 
stick with magnets on each end that spun like a windmill and when it went 
over some sort of magnetic pickup this ould create a signal which was then 
routed through a box with a bunch of switches, and then to a rack of effects 
processors.

the use of magnets for creating/altering sounds has interested me ever since.

anyone else see this?
