Hey all:
I just joined the list for support on my new upcoming
obsession... Please pardon the newbie intrusion, I've
go to start somewhere.
I was wondering if someone could recommend a good
vendor(s) for modular synth kit components
(electronics). Also, to what extent can I mix and
match components from different manufacturers. I know
that most use the same voltage specs nowadays, right?
I'd like to build a custom housing (rack/sides),
knobs/sliders, and face plates from scratch in my
friends machine/wood shop.
There are quite a few kits available now. I have an
"intermediate" level of DIY electronics skills.
However, I have a fair amount of industrial design
skills for milling, drilling, etc.
Finally, I have a good amount of analog synthesis and
modular synth protocol. I've used a Nord Modular and
tons of other hardwired gear for several years as a
professional sound designer/synthesist.
My passion has gotten to the point where I need to put
together a limited real deal rig to satisfy my need
for tactile interaction!
My budget is $1,500 to $2,000. I realize that this
will get me only a basic setup. I plan to expand of
course when at all humanly possible.
Thanks for any and all help!
