I have a Votrax SC-01 speech synthisizer, (I
think thats the right#) that I bought at a local
thrift store. I realy have not found any thing
consructive to do with it yet. anyway, old speech
synthisizers are not hard to find and are pretty
cheap, (unless you are talking about a speak and
spell) I use to have a bookmark that listed a bunch
of speech synthisizers but I seem to have thrown it
away.(sorry) Atari had a few that went to their
computers as well. you should do a search using
"votrax" or speech synthisizer. keep an eye out,
speech synths periodicaly show up on ebay and usualy
go for about 20$ us (unless they are speak and spells
which are realy expensive). If all you want is the
artificial speech sound, you might already own
somthing that does that. Every Macintosh computer
since 1984 has the capability to speak. these days
its part of the program "simple text"(the standard
ASCII prog that come with it) you just type what you
want it to say, than say speak all , or (comand J)
there is a huge list of voices it can use, from high
quality ones with english accents to low quality
classic ones (like speak and spell)
good luck.... and if you come across anything cool
to do with a Votrax sc-01, or you want mine, email me
or post to the sdiy list. bye.
