i've had many an eps in my repair shop, and though i have little hope for
you, i do have some advice.

if you can load the o.s. from floppy just once, you can then format the zip
drive, and load straight from it. the trick is, finding someone with a
working floppy drive in another EPS (new 16+ or original), or an SD-1, or
VFX-SD (largely the same drives).

i've tried sending the old sony mpf-420 drives back to sony, and they
"repaired" them, but still did not work. i've also seen what appears to be a
bad floppy drive, but is really a problem on the motherboard... so that
replacing the dive with a known good drive is no help. Now and again, the
floppy cable is crimped somewhere (likely by the standoffs that secure the
keyboard mechanism in place.

i'd say your best bet is to get someone (from the list, or otherwise) that
lives near you with an eps 16+ to format the drive for you, or beg syntaur to
format you some Zip disks...

**most important of all, check out

if anyone can help, it's them.
