My main bench is something I got as a kit from home depot at about age 15.
sturdy metal construction, with particle board top and various modifications
to mount phone jacks (a must for the phone phreak) etc in various places. Two
swiveling monitor holder arms were added, one for a monitor and the other for
a scope. That bench is full of junk right now, so I end up doing most of my
soldering on the washing machine these days. I have another, DIY bench in the
garage, which is probably at the "cool" end of the "two filing cabinets and a
door" category. A sheet of plywood scavenged from a medical laser packing
crate, stuck on top of a 4'x4' acid storage cabinet with huge swinging doors
and "CORROSIVE" across the front in big letters.
