My build-it workbench is a 30 inch solid core door on top of two file
cabinets. I cut the door down to 66 inches and put wood tape around the
edges. It looks pretty good with the Verithane finish. In back, on the
underside is a six foot outlet strip and solid copper ground strip. I use a
carpet liberally doused with static cling to protect equipment and
workbench.

My music workbench is another solid core door 36 inches by 80 inches. This
time I used some substantial wood legs that I obtained from IKEA. This bench
has the same outlet strip and ground. There is a shelf for books and
near-field monitors made from a folding door panel and short wooden table
legs. This desk is substantial enough to hold a 20 inch Sun monitor and a 19
inch ViewSonic.
