[sdiy] OT: Mystery object ???

Cleaning out a recently deceased relative's flat, we came across a strange
electronic device.

I have absolutely no idea what it is, and my damn curiosity is killing me...

Anyone know what it might be ?
It contains a single transistor, 2 resistors, a cap, what looks like a light
sensor - all embedded in clear plastic, with some sort of connector
underneath, and a suction cup.
It came in a little jewellery type case, made for it.
