[sdiy] donut wirewound thingies?

I am salvaging parts from an old cell phone battery charger I found in the 
trash, and there are two round things that look like the wire wound 
electromagnet things but they are round like donuts, with the hole and all. I 
don't know what they are, or any possible applications, synth or otherwise.

also, there are a fair few capacitors there, small yellow ones (look like 
some polycarbonate one's I've bought.)  is there a resource to find out the 
value of these caps?  I know the 104 = 100nF type stuff, but this looks a bit 
different.  maybe some way with a scope?

I have to give the shout out of thanks to the electronic peasant, whose 
webpage made me aware of salvage as a source of parts. (thanks man!)
