One of the things I love about many scrap and surplus places...I managed to 
pick up two HP laser interferometers pretty much complete for maybe 10 bucks 
a piece at a place in New Hampshire. haven't found anything with musical 
applications yet, though (unless I want to try to count interference fringes 
and use that to control a filter or something by pushing on a brick 
wall....that would look rather interesting)
