Did anyone actually see the 105's schematic? While I don't defend
him, there's 0.001% chance that (hell yeah) his just "inspired"
with some designs, but yes it's very suspicious to see such
almost obvious ripoffs. Tony, don't be surprised if D. put
out his 404 V2.0, surprisingly authentic clone to 303 ;> ...
I'm not an expert in law, it's obvious that you can't protect
something you publically presented online, other than to rely
on ethics (and lawyers if you have $$$). This may get somewhat
philosophical as mr Blacet stated all this designs were
invented already, and you all should pay _something_ to mr Moog
for his ladder filter, no? But, if you give proper credit to
the inventor, you'll pass at least this list's ethic test, right?
Well mr. D obviously doesn't. Tony's superb FINISHED PRODUCT
has 99.999% certanly been rippedoff, with no credit. That's lame.
I think nobody can stop you making Mini's PCB, and sell it as
DIy kit, and then make a call Hey, yo, Bob, I've made some pcb's
and sell them under the name MyniMogg (tm)(c), but I'll give you
a credit for designig ccts, with or without your blessing... :)
It'd be very nice from someone to verify if those ccts were
actually stolen, both from TA and JH (and whomever more),
and then we could take some "drastic" measures. Some anti-d
public page, few words in some mags, hey I can even ask
some of my hacker friends to hack his site :) or to send
him every possible mail virus, cast a voodoo spell on him etc.
Scanning service manulas and pcb might be option also,
to have them on some free drive, but I think bad publicity
in this and such forums might do better. Still you can't
fight "What the *#!~ would I care?" comment from customers
who wouldn't care for this matter. Not that this is the same
level of comparison, but why would I care if I'd buy
japanese car with some nice electronics and patents stolen
from some european car? I care it's cheaper and that it runs
good, with some more flashy LEDs. But this is our theritory
and we here DO care about that matter (for synth related designs,
not cars)...
Maybe it'd be hard to decide if he had stolen JH's wasp filter
as it's very simple and you can do very little to change
it from the original, but still JH used some different values
for some improvements, and if I see that beside 4069s acting
as opamps (which credit should go to wasp's designer) I'd
be sure that every other thing is ripoff also. JH didn't
designed it but bring it to surface from schematic oblivion
and did some mods, and credited it's designer.
Well, anyway, I wish mr. D Beavis&Butthead (tm) as employees :)
Legal stuff isn't my expertise...
Cheers,
marjan
